God’s Calling is a new series that the ICSU Update team are starting in hopes to share the Christian experiences of ICSU community members. Mrs. Rebecca Havill is a secondary NorthStar supervisor and has been at ICSU for about three and a half years.

Q. Are you a Christian?

A. Yes, I am a follower of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Creator of the World and everything in it.  Without Him I can do nothing!

Q. How did you discover God?

A. My parents were Bible believers and taught me from a very young age about who God is, how much He loves and cares for me and how  much I needed Him.  I knew, even at 6 years old, that I did wrong things that didn’t please God.  These sins and the things that I didn’t do that I was supposed to do made me unclean before God.  I saw my need for Jesus to make me clean before God.  I accepted His free gift of salvation!  (Romans 6:23)

Q. How did you discover NICS and why did you decide to work at a Christian school?

A. Long, long ago (in 1986) ICSUJB was looking for their first librarian.  I was asked to come work here and I said “No!” to God.  Oops!  Wrong choice.  Through a series of situations God gently, lovingly showed me that I needed to be here and prepared me for leaving my own country for the first time.  I came here in August 1987 and my life has never been the same since!  I loved Uijeongbu and Korea.  I loved the school and the students.  Still do even 33 years later.  My NICS story is woven throughout many countries and many schools.  God is gracious to have let so many student’s lives impact my own life and to allow me to see God himself work in these lives for His glory.   Why did I decide to work at a NICS school?  Because I have the opportunity, no matter what I do, to help students and to learn from them.  Above all, to show them the Love of God.

Q. Has ICSU contributed to your faith? If so, how?

A. To show me that no matter what I do, He is faithful and unchanging.  Over and over again, despite my mistakes, God has been the power at work in my life and in those of the students.  He is faithful, never changing, and ever loving.

Q. How do you think God worked in your life?

A. I know that He did!  My answers show that.  I would just add this:  How wonderful is it that THE King of Kings, Creator of the World and all the Galaxies, reaches down to me . . . to love me, to send His son to die for me, to care for me, to daily help me to become more like Him.  That is amazing to me.  Not just in salvation but in all of life until I am with Him forever in Heaven.

Q. When you think of “God”, what comes to your mind first?

A. Creator.  Savior.  Father.  (I don’t know which came first to my mind.)

Q. If you could ask God one question, what could it be?

A.  I don’t question God.  He knows all!  He gives me what I need, daily, even hourly, gives me peace in the midst of troubles.  He gives me breath to live, He gives good gifts.  I love Him.
