Students, staff, and admin have come to the realization that there needs to be a technological upgrade. That day has finally come.
On September 21st of the 2020-2021 school year, ICSU Technology Director Mr. Yoo handed out the new and improved Poin2 Chromebook 11C to select students. The group of students that received this new device were either currently enrolled in a Northstar academy online course or are in the senior class. After receiving these improved chromebooks, students were very impressed. Suited with a 11.6 inch HD IPS screen, Mediatek MT8173 Quad-Core, 32 GB of storage, and 4 GB of RAM, this chromebook is a major upgrade compared to the Poin2 Chromebook 11 that was previously distributed to students.
Lagging and slow loading speeds were two big complaints about the previous chromebooks which have now subsided with the new technological upgrades. With faster and stronger processors and more RAM, the new chromebooks are able to handle large files and beefy presentations or websites. Northstar students are able to work more efficiently with the larger screens and seniors are able to spend their last year at ICSU using a far better device than they have been using for the past years.
When asked about the new chromebook, Sophomore Christian Park responded by saying, “Although these new chromebooks are an upgrade compared to the previous ones, for the price, I feel that the school could have made a better decision. There are a couple of functions that weren’t necessary and the school should’ve reallocated the funds to a device equipped with a better processor and possibly, a better trackpad and keyboard.”
The 360 degree screen folding and touchscreen was the most popular feature of the new chromebook. Many students loved them as they added a new experience and twist to using technology in the classroom. Being able to use the chromebook as a laptop and tablet allows for versatility. Students can now complete a variety of different assignments with just one device now. Some students even utilize the improved bluetooth on the 11C chromebooks by bringing their own wireless keyboards to school.
Overall, the new chromebooks were widely and gladly accepted by all the students that received them. Since the Poin2 Chromebook 11C has better specifications, the students were glad that they could have a more stable and enjoyable learning experience.
